Merchants State Bank, 1910

Merchants State Bank once stood on the northeast corner of Broadway and NP Avenue in downtown Fargo.

A black and white photo from 1910 shows a parade turning east from Broadway onto NP Avenue. The color photo shows the scene as it appeared in 2015. The site is occupied by a Merrill Lynch brokerage and a number of other businesses.

If you turn around 180 degrees, you see this view.

  1. My best friend’s father worked as a janitor in this bank in the 1950s. He was a hard worker and managed to save enough to buy a multi-unit apartment building. I would jokingly ask him if he swept up the old money off of the floor.
